How to understand basics in organic chemistry

Studying organic chemistry is not an easy task. Actually studying Organic Chemistry require some prerequisites. This is because organic and inorganic chemistry applies all the concepts that you have understood in physical or analytical chemistry.
When you are studying organic the prerequisites  chapters of physical chemistry that would be used are atomic structure (wave atomic model part) chemical bonding (hybridization part) and periodicity. Now most important is you should be fundamentally strong on the prerequisites rather than just relying on the shortcuts of either hybridization or quantum numbers, which is commonly emphasized by the tuition teachers.
Simple logic is while studying physical or analytical chemistry great emphasize is laid on method or concepts which are not element or compound specific. Say for example in analytical chemistry a method is available for detection or estimation of chlorine. Now this method is not limited to only inorganic or organic compound. This method can be applied in all the cases for detecting or estimating chlorine.
For example
For estimating or detecting chlorine in sample of sodium chloride, silver nitrate is used to precipitate chlorine as silver chloride as it is shown in equation.

Similarly to detect chlorine in ethyl chloride (Alkyl halide) same method can be adopted as shown in equation.

The white precipitates of silver chloride would be seen in the solution in both the above cases.
So method remains same but its application differs . So while studying organic chemistry lots of intermingling between the concepts of physical and analytical chemistry is done. If one has 100% clarity about the concepts the intermingling becomes easy and understanding becomes simpler. But if case is one  in only relying on shortcuts in physical or analytical chemistry then intermingling is not at all possible
So firstly try to understand concepts of physical or analytical chemistry related to what you are studying and then after understanding it to maximum switch over to the organic part that should help you
