Salt Hydrolysis

There is no chemical reaction between water and sodium carbonate. The only reaction which is characterized is salt hydrolysis reaction. The reaction is represented as

The hydrolysis products formed are Strong base and weak acid so pH of the solution after dissolution will not be neutral. As base is strong the pH of the solution will be alkaline. The ph is calculated by formula
