Aldol Condensation reaction mechanism

This reaction is possible on Aldehyde or ketones having alpha hydrogen atom. When such a compound is reacted with an dilute alkali forms electrophile and nucleophile. These electrophile and nucleophile under go condensation reaction to give a compound containing aldehyde and alcohol(commonly termed as aldol)
